Additional Information
Patriot Day is observed on September 11th in memory of the 2,993 people who lost their lives in the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States. Most Americans refer to this day as 9/11 or September 11th. On December 18, 2001, President George W. Bush signed into law this discretionary day of remembrance. The American flag should be flown at half-staff at home and at all U.S. government buildings.
Most Americans observe a moment of silence beginning at 8:46am EST - the time of the first plane crash in a tower on September 11, 2001.
